July Coronavirus Update

Summer greetings to CED faculty and teaching staff! The Owens Library is currently closed but I am here to help if you need assistance. While the services of the library are in flux due to COVID-19, I want to reassure you that we safely offer our services as best we can.

Scanning Owens Library Materials

Owens Library materials may be scanned and uploaded to eLC. Note that physical copies of books for Reserves this fall will be severely limited. Email your requests as soon as you can to mtufts@uga.edu

Creating Library Guides For Individual Classes And Projects

As in-person assistance will be limited this year, we are creating student guides for specific classes and projects. If you want these guides before the fall semester starts on August 20th, send your request to us before July 30th. For guides needed later in the semester, allow 72 hours for processing.

Book Requests

If you request a book to be picked up at the Owens Library, or if you want an Owens Library book, place your request online. To do so, search the online catalogue for the item you are looking for; once located, choose “Get It,” then click on the “Request” tab. We will notify you when the book is ready. Requested books will be placed in your mailbox to minimize interaction at the library.

Owens Library Journals Requests

Print copies of Owens Library journals and magazines may be checked out for one week at a time. Make your requests directly to mtufts@uga.edu. We can also scan articles for you if needed. See our web page for a listing of the print journals we have on hand

How To Return Books And Materials

As always, any UGA library books may be returned to Owens Library for processing via the book drop slot at the front of the Jackson Street Building (on right at main entrance, at ADA ramp). Alternatively, Owens Library materials may be returned to the Main Library’s outdoor book return station.

Safety Issues Regarding Library Materials

Books and other materials may harbor viruses. Like all libraries on campus, the Owens Library will process returned items after a 72-hour waiting period.

Communications Concerning Services Once Fall Semester Begins

We will send pertinent information via email to CED faculty as decisions are made, but do not hesitate to contact me for assistance or questions at mtufts@uga.edu

This spring during quarantine, we updated the Owens Library web page. Check out our listing of Georgia materials not cataloged in GIL, CED theses and practicum titles, and thesis writing help, among other things.

Stay safe and drink lots of iced tea,
