GEORGIA STUDENTS OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE

The College of Environment and Design is the home of the state student chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). We aspire to bring landscape architecture students from the BLA and MLA programs together for social purposes. We plan and oversee various projects and events at CED in conjunction with the state chapter of ASLA. Follow this link to our website, and follow GSLA on Instagram to receive notification regarding meetings, projects, and social events.

STUDENT HISTORIC PRESERVATION ORGANIZATION

The Student Historic Preservation Organization (SHPO) is a membership organization that serves all undergraduate and graduate students interested in historic sites and landscapes. SHPO is dedicated to increasing awareness of historic preservation throughout the University of Georgia and Athens communities, and providing preservation advocacy opportunities for its members.

SHPO at UGA aims to provide supplemental instruction catered to the desires of MHP students, opportunities to engage in preservation activities in Athens and the Northeast Georgia area, and a community of those with a mutual interest in heritage conservation. Examples of activities provided in the past include volunteering at Watson Mill Bridge State Park, Brooklyn Cemetery, and Historic Macon Foundation; bi-weekly group lunches; and visits to Fort Creek Farm in Sparta, and historic Edgefield, SC.

For more info and to be notified regarding upcoming meetings and events, join our Facebook group.

STUDENT PLANNING ASSOCIATION

The Student Planning Association (SPA) began in Fall 2011 as an opportunity for students interested in planning to pursue projects outside of the day-to-day curriculum.  Through networking events, learning opportunities, and volunteer work, students will engage with the university and larger Athens community. Though currently an organization through the University of Georgia Center for Student Organizations, the organization hopes to become associated with the American Planning Association in the near future to promote relationships on a local, national, and international level. We welcome opportunities to become involved in planning projects through the University and through Athens-Clarke County and to partner with other like-minded organizations.

National Association of Minority Landscape Architects

The National Association of Minority Landscape Architects (NAMLA) is a student-led organization created to provide support and mentorship to marginalized students within the College of Environment + Design. The main goals for NAMLA include creating and facilitating a space for discussion,  engaging in community service and outreach, and providing students with an opportunity to network with other marginalized professionals and colleagues. Historic Preservation and Urban Planning students are also welcomed to join and collaborate.
