Tybee Island Master Plan Awarded Outstanding Student Project by Georgia Planning Association
CED student work for the Tybee Island Master Plan was recently awarded Outstanding Student Project for the year by the Georgia Planning Association (GPA). Congratulations to Assistant Professor Alison Smith and her students in the Fall 2016 LAND 4050 class! The award was made public at the annual awards dinner in Columbus, Ga., on September 28th 2017. Pictured here with Alison Smith (center) are Johanna McCrehan of the Georgia Conservancy, and Corey Hull (left), current GPA president and Jim Summerhill (right), incoming GPA president. The work by the class was nominated by Charles McMillan, coastal director for the Georgia Conservancy. The Georgia Conservancy has been working to protect the natural resources of Georgia’s coastal communities for over 40 years. Student work addressed issues of effects of sea level rise as well as public space development and circulation. Over one million people visit the popular island on Georgia’s coast, which is located in Chatham County, not far from Savannah. Congratulations Alison and students!
