MHP Graduate Coordinator James Reap recently went to Tallinn, Estonia to participate an
International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) conference. The conference’s
theme wasHistorical Perspective of Heritage Legislation: Balance Between Laws and Values and commemorated the 350thAnniversary of the 1666 Act by King Charles XI of Sweden which was one of the earliest
heritage protection acts in Europe. The conference all occurred in the year of the
50thAnniversary of the Tallinn Old Town Conservation Area. While there, Professor Reap
presented his paper titled “What’s Old is New Again: Charles XI’s Conservation Act
