Lynn Abdouni honored with Graduate School Excellence in Teaching Award
PhD candidate Lynn Abdouni has been selected to receive one of the 2021 Graduate School
Excellence in Teaching Awards. This award, administered in collaboration with the UGA Center for Teaching and Learning and the
UGA Teaching Academy, is given to no more than five graduate student recipients each
year. Lynn is being recognized for her outstanding instruction in the performance
of her teaching responsibilities while pursuing a rigorous program of study in the
College of Environment and Design (CED).
Lynn’s focal point in her teaching and service is to position design as a language
for thinking and community building. She has brought her expertise in visual design
and software as primary instructor to LAND 2020, LAND 2200, and HIPR 6060, all core
courses taught at the CED. In the fall of 2020, while instructing LAND 1500: Environment
and Design, she integrated current issues of social justice, ecological design, and
pandemic impacts on humanity’s use of space design in her curriculum. Previously,
in the fall of 2019, Lynn founded the Lettus Collective, a design student movement
based on creating projects to influence design culture and education at the CED. Lynn
also conducted several workshops and events on using design for science communication
with the UGA’s Retention & Diversity Initiatives, NASA DEVELOP’s Athens Node, and
UGA’s SCIREN. She has also led three workshops on space design with middle and high
school students in the state of Georgia.
Lynn was recognized in the UGA Honors Day video as part of a virtual awards ceremony on Thursday, April 22, 2021.
