Dean Sonia Hirt, Hughes Professor in Landscape Architecture and Planning at the College of Environment and Design recently traveled to China to lecture at the College of Architecture and Planning at Tongji University. Her topic was “American Land Use Regulation in Comparative Perspective.”

Tongji University has programs in landscape architecture, urban planning, and the built heritage that are aligned with the programs here at the UGA College of Environment and Design. While there, Dean Hirt met with the Dean, the Chair of Landscape Architecture, and faculty from planning and built heritage.

“They have dual programs with many universities and I hope our CED faculty will join me in exploring faculty and student exchanges, as well as visiting scholars and virtual joint studios,” she noted. Possibilities for funded teaching opportunities in areas such as cultural landscapes are available as well.

Tongji University, located in Shanghai, is a comprehensive university highly regarded for its programs in civil engineering, business, and architecture. It was established in 1907, making it one of the oldest universities in China.
