Alum Jon Williams appointed to State LAR Board

Jon Williams

Jon Williams (BLA '96), CEO and President of W&A Engineering, was recently appointed to the Georgia Board of Landscape Architects by Governor Brian Kemp. According to the press release, the Board is authorized to “adopt rules, set standards for licensure, adopt mandatory standards of professional conduct, and investigate and discipline unauthorized, negligent or incompetent practice.” In addition, the Board also licenses landscape architects, after applicants complete their education and pass a national and state exam.

Dean Sonia Hirt, who values Jon’s participation as a member of the CED Dean's Advisory Council very highly, says, “Jon’s extensive experience in design, permitting, and management of large-scale construction and development makes him a perfect choice for this position.”

After establishing his company in 1999 at the age of 26, Jon and his associates have grown W&A Engineering into a multi-disciplined, national engineering firm with work in over 40 states. W&A is known for their on-call assistance to Georgia communities, but also for their tireless philanthropy. Jon and his employees are dedicated community volunteers, donating money and in-kind services to local organizations and causes such as Extra Special People, the Firefly Trail, Brooklyn Cemetery, and many others, as well as through their annual sponsorship of the MLK Day of Service in Athens-Clarke County.

We are very proud of Jon’s leadership, grateful for W&A’s work in our community, and delighted that he has been appointed to such an important role for our state. Congratulations, Jon!
