“Three Decades of Post-Socialist Transition”

Sonia Hirt, dean of the UGA College of Environment and Design, will be a keynote speaker at the International Conference on Cities and Change in May 2019 in Darmstadt, Germany. The conference is sponsored by the Technische Universität Darmstadt, a leading technology university in Europe. The theme of the conference is “Three Decades of Post-Socialist Transition” and will examine the changes wrought by the collapse of socialism in central Europe in the latter decades of the twentieth century. Leading urban academics will discuss issues of post-socialist transition and the myriad effects on built urban environments from diverse perspectives; socio-political changes, post-socialist identity formation, representation of cities and the urban space.
