Who can apply?
Currently enrolled students pursuing CED degree-required coursework and having a minimum 3.0 GPA are eligible to apply. Please note that thesis/research hours and independent study hours do NOT count as degree-required coursework.
The scholarship application period opens October 15th and closes February 15th. Awards are announced in mid to late April. Awarded scholarship funds can be received for the following Summer, Fall and Spring semesters, contingent upon continued enrollment in CED degree-required coursework. Fund distribution is not completely under CED control, and for summer and fall semesters distribution can run as late as September 1, so please plan your finances accordingly.

4. Fill out the online application and email a downloaded copy of it to the nominating professor WELL BEFORE the application deadline.

How will I know if I have been awarded a scholarship or assistantship?
If I do not receive an award, will I be notified?
Yes. Every applicant submitting a properly completed application will receive an email indicating whether or not they have received an award.
If I receive an award, can I choose which semesters I want to receive it?
Are there any special rules to apply for a scholarship to support study abroad?
If I choose to receive an award for summer tuition or travel, will I receive it in time to pay for that tuition or travel prior to departure?
Initial distribution of scholarship funds is not entirely within the control of the CED. While we make every effort that we can, funds may not be distributed in time to fund summer tuition or travel expenses prior to due dates or departure dates. Please keep this in mind as you plan your finances. Summer funding will be distributed as soon as possible and will certainly be in your student account no later than September 1.
If I choose to receive an award to cover fall semester tuition and fees, will I receive it in time to meet UGA’s deadline?
Initial distribution of scholarship funds is not entirely within the control of the CED. While we make every effort that we can, funds may not be distributed in time to meet the Fall tuition deadline. Please keep this in mind as you plan your finances. Funds will be distributed as soon as possible and will certainly be in your student account no later than September 1.
Do I have to be enrolled in CED coursework during the semester I want to receive funds?
Yes. But more specifically, scholarship funds can only be received in a semester in which you are enrolled in CED Degree-Required coursework. Coursework that does not fulfill this requirement includes any coursework not required for your CED degree (such as minors, certificates, double-majors, etc.). Additionally, Thesis/Research and Independent Study courses do not count.
