FAQs

How will I know if I have been awarded a scholarship or assistantship?

Students will receive an award letter from the Scholarship Coordinator indicating the award(s), the amount(s), and any additional requirements necessary to receive the award(s).

If I do not receive an award, will I be notified?

Yes.  Every applicant submitting a properly completed application will receive an email indicating whether or not they have received an award.

If I receive an award, can I choose which semesters I want to receive it?

Generally, yes, but some awards are specified by the committee.   The award letter typically requests your determination of which semester(s) and what amount(s) you want to receive.  For example: you might decide you want to evenly split the award between Fall and Spring semesters.

Are there any special rules to apply for a scholarship to support study abroad?

Yes. To be considered for Summer Study Abroad Program funding, you must have applied and paid your deposit. OGE records will be confirmed prior to awarding.

If I choose to receive an award for summer tuition or travel, will I receive it in time to pay for that tuition or travel prior to departure?

Initial distribution of scholarship funds is not entirely within the control of the CED.  While we make every effort that we can, funds may not be distributed in time to fund summer tuition or travel expenses prior to due dates or departure dates.  Please keep this in mind as you plan your finances.  Summer funding will be distributed as soon as possible and will certainly be in your student account no later than September 1.

If I choose to receive an award to cover fall semester tuition and fees, will I receive it in time to meet UGA’s deadline?

Do I have to be enrolled in CED coursework during the semester I want to receive funds?

Yes.  But more specifically, scholarship funds can only be received in a semester in which you are enrolled in CED Degree-Required coursework.  Coursework that does not fulfill this requirement includes any coursework not required for your CED degree (such as minors, certificates, double-majors, etc.).  Additionally, Thesis/Research and Independent Study courses do not count.
