Experience UGA is a partnership between the Clarke County School District (CCSD) and the UGA Office of Service Learning which aims to bring every PreK-12 student to UGAʼs campus every year for a curricular-based field trip.  Our Georgia Student Landscape Architecture association (GSLA) leads field trips for tenth-graders to showcase landscape architecture and environmental design. Read about it and learn how to volunteer here.

Historic Athens has worked to improve historic preservation and heritage conservation in the Athens area for over 50 years, having been founded in 1967 as the Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation.  Historic Athens manages the Athens Welcome Center; revitalizes homes through Hands On Athens; recognizes revitalization efforts and opportunities through Preservation Awards and an annual Places in Peril list;  and hosts brown bag lunches, historic walks, and many other events. Internships available year-round.

Hands On Athens  is a neighborhood revitalization initiative of Historic Athens that assists low-income homeowners with home maintenance projects in homes that are 50 years or older. The goal of Hands On Athens is to keep neighborhoods intact through safe and habitable homes.

Engage Georgia is a platform hosted by the UGA Office of Service-Learning to connect volunteers with area organizations in need of assistance.  There are a variety of ongoing opportunities.

Tutoring at Pinewoods
Oasis Católico Santa Rafaela sponsors an after-school program for children, age Pre-K to 5th grade, in the Pinewoods community of Athens, Georgia. Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, Oasis tutoring is virtual, and it takes place via Zoom Monday through Thursday from 3:00 pm to 5:15 pm.  Tutors reinforce academic skills by assisting students with their homework and by creating unique lesson plans that enable children to thrive in a virtual but interactive learning environment. Knowledge of the Spanish language is not required, and we welcome undergraduate college students of any major.  For more information or to register to tutor, please visit our website at
