CED offers several dual degrees under the UGA Double Dawgs Program, which gives ambitious and motivated students a competitive advantage in today’s knowledge economy. By earning both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in five years or less, students can save time and money while positioning themselves for success after graduation.

BLA+MHP

The joint Landscape Architecture B.L.A/M.H.P Preservation Double Dawgs degree pathway prepares students to be leaders in the fields of historic preservation, cultural landscape, and community planning, as well as providing a pathway into Ph.D. programs in social science and humanities fields. The Master of Historic Preservation is the terminal degree in the field of historic preservation, and would allow graduates access to employment options at local, state, and federal government levels, would prepare them to work in the non-profit cultural heritage sector, as well as to find employment in the construction, cultural heritage tourism, and design industries.

Requirements

  • Students may apply to the joint Landscape Architecture B.L.A/M.H.P Preservation pathway during the fall semester of the third year.
  • 3.0 overall GPA and 3.0 in all LAND or HIPR courses
  • Successful completion of at least one HIPR and one LAND course
  • Letter of Intent
  • Transcript
  • At least one letter of recommendation from either LAND or HIPR faculty

Admission

Admission to the graduate program occurs by February of the fourth year, for matriculation as an M.H.P student in fall of the fifth year. All admissions requirements to the M.H.P program are also required for admission to the graduate portion of the Landscape Architecture B.L.A/Historic Preservation M.H.P Double Dawgs program.

BLA+MLA

Current BLA students are welcome to apply to the BLA+MLA program. This program is a great option for aspiring landscape architects who would like to set themselves apart after graduation. The CED’s MLA program prepares students to lead the profession as outstanding practitioners, educators and scholars in the planning, design, and management of the natural and built environment. Admission

BLA+MUPD

This program is a great option for BLA students ready to enter the field of urban planning and design. The PAB-accredited Urban Planning and Design graduate program focuses on the physical planning and design of the built environment. Real Estate BBA+MUPD

The integration of the Real Estate BBA with the Urban Planning and Design MUPD offers a unique pathway for students interested in real estate careers that foster heavy engagement with public policy, urban planning, and best practices in real estate development. This collaborative opportunity enables students to gain deep understanding of the built environments where we live, work, and play. This includes ground-up real estate development, urban revitalization initiatives, adaptive reuse projects, and infrastructure optimization. Particularly beneficial for those aspiring to shape urban landscapes, the program prepares students for careers that bridge private enterprises and public benefit through private-public partnerships.

Upon completion, graduates will be equipped not only with advanced knowledge from both disciplines but also with practical skills applicable in a variety of professional settings. These include positions in urban planning agencies, real estate development firms, city planning departments, and roles that influence policymaking for sustainable urban growth. This pathway not only fosters a deeper understanding of how market forces interact with urban planning principles but also enhances employability by broadening the scope of potential career avenues in both private and public sectors.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate students will apply to the Real Estate BBA/Urban Planning and Design MUPD program after they have been officially accepted into the Real Estate major in the Terry College. This typically occurs the fall semester of their third year at UGA. Student applications will be reviewed by the director of the M.U.P.D. program. The director of the M.U.P.D. program has final authority to grant admission.
  • A recommendation from one of the Undergraduate Advising Contacts must be provided by the individual listed under Undergraduate Advising Contact on the program details page.

Admission

The Master of Urban Planning and Design program admits 15-18 students each year. While applications are received at any time, those applications completed by February 1st will be guaranteed the opportunity to compete for assistantships. Applicants are required to have an undergraduate degree.

Students will formally apply to the Graduate School by submitting:

  • Graduate school application and fee (International applicants: https://grad.uga.edu/admissions/requirements/international-applications/)
  • UNOFFICIAL academic transcripts from all colleges and universities attended should be included in your online application. Official transcripts will be required for those admitted to UGA.
  • A Letter of Intent – a statement outlining the reasons for the student’s interest in the program, the relevance of previous degrees and experience, and the applicant’s goals and ambitions.
  • Three reference letters – As part of the online application, you will need to furnish accurate email address information for individuals to provide three letters of recommendation. The link for the form will be electronically sent to your recommender while completing the online application.
  • GRE Scores: Not required.

AB Geography+MUPD

This program will prepare students for a career in urban planning or for future research in urban studies and urban geography.

Requirements:

Undergraduate students applying to the joint A.B./M.U.P.D. program must submit a letter of intent, portfolio of creative work, and complete a joint interview with the directors of the A.B. and M.U.P.D. programs.

Admission

Undergraduate students will apply to the joint A.B./M.U.P.D. program the fall semester of their third year of the undergraduate program. Student applications will be reviewed by the undergraduate coordinator in Geography and the director of the M.U.P.D. program. The director of the M.U.P.D. program has final authority to grant admission.

The AB History and Master of Historic Preservation dual degree program prepares students to lead the fields of historic preservation and public history, as well as pave the way for PhD studies in the humanities. This program is suitable for students looking for a career in history, preservation, non-profits, construction, cultural heritage tourism, design, and more.

  • Completion of at least one HIST course and at least one HIPR course

AB Classics+MHP

The AB Classics + Historic Preservation MHP Double Dawgs program is an excellent pathway for students interested in the architecture of the built environment, history, and preservation and opens the gateway to various PhD programs in the humanities.

  • Minimum 3.3 GPA in all CLAS and/or HIPR courses

  • One (1) Letter of Recommendation from either CLAS or HIPR faculty

Admission

Admission occurs by February of the student’s fourth year, for matriculation as an MHP student in the fall of the fifth year. All MHP admission requirements are also required for admission to the graduate portion of the AB Classics+MHP Double Dawgs program. The MHP requires a minimum of 39 hours of HIPR classes.

Study Abroad

The CED offers many study abroad programs (Croatia, Cortona), AB/MHP Double Dawgs should consider participating in the Croatia study abroad program in Archeology, Art, and Heritage Conservation. This study abroad satisfies course requirements in the Classics AB as well as the minors in Classical Culture, Greek, and Latin.

AB Anthropology+MHP

The AB Anthropology + Historic Preservation MHP Double Dawgs program is an excellent pathway for students interested in historic preservation and cultural resource management and opens the gateway to various Ph.D. programs in social sciences and humanities.
