Project: New Construction Lake Lanier Site Design | Gainesville, GA
Contact: Nathan Cleaver, Email: [email protected], Phone: 660-349-7048
Description: At our 2.75 acre, newly built lake front home, we have limitless design potential. Our project has many exciting potential design elements. We are in the process of starting construction on a guesthouse/garage with an attached greenhouse. There are many zones within the property: lakefront area, pool area, house area, guesthouse / garage area, fruit tree / possible vineyard / possible wild grass area connecting between the house and garage. We are trying to create a design for an outdoor fireplace adjacent to the lake while preserving the lake nature reserve element. At our fence line surrounding our pool, we are looking to create a manicured feel with an area of sod, a privacy berm that can blend privacy elements with design features including a possible man-made stream. At the base of this, we are considering a putting green / artificial turf area for kids play area. We have many other ideas that are best described in person. This design would likely require an initial site visit to discuss the plan design, as well as 1-2 meetings during the design process (may be able to make one of these virtual), and one in person meeting to review the final designs.
Timeline for completion: 2-3 months
Budget for design work: TBD
Budget for implementation: TBD – likely will be a phased implementation of the next 12-18 months

Project: Vintage Club Neighborhood | Greensboro, GA
Contact: Michelle Harth, Email: [email protected], Phone: 603-781-8652
Description: Vintage Club is a small neighborhood of duplexes in Greensboro. The houses are all on top of a hill beside a creek or the lake. We are having problems with erosion in some areas and are looking for solutions that use native plants and require low maintenance. Our goals are stop to erosion, promote native flora, minimize maintenance, and find sustainable solutions. Perhaps also to create a habitat for birds, butterflies, and other wildlife and work with neighbors to share the benefits of natural landscaping.
Timeline for completion: The sooner the better as the problem will only persist, but can work with whatever is realistic.
Budget for design work / implementation: Not yet determined, will need to go through the neighborhood board, open to discussion.
Project: The Cedars | Washington, GA
Contact: Ken, Email: [email protected], Phone: 404-790-1986
Description: The Cedars is a large Victorian home on 6 acres in the center of the town of Washington, Georgia. The property sits on a high point of the city and has a number of large, cedar trees around the home and on the land of adjoining neighbors. In addition, there are approximately 20 large pecan trees, 6-8 dogwood, a maple, a tulip tree and 2 large magnolia trees in the areas close to the house. The goal of this project will be to create plans for landscape and hardscape to improve existing designs and accommodate changes to the home and property (including adding a barn) while working around large, old trees. There are a number of old growth plantings on the property including English boxwoods, sea / blue oats, crepe myrtle, camelia bushes, azalea bushes, and tea olive. Many of these will be best moved to locations that will work better for the plants and the property. We would like to add a number of fruit trees and blueberry bushes on the property as well as create spaces for food and flower garden beds. Envisioning and locating improvements to hardscape in drawings will be important to ensure their impacts are considered before we begin planting. For the initial stage, we hope to create general landscape and hardscape plans for property, with more comprehensive drawings and plant selections for areas to the front and around the home. We are open to work with one or more students in undertaking this project.
Timeline for completion: TBD.
Budget for design work: TBD.
Budget for implementation: TBD.

Project: Lane Creek New Home Landscape Design Without Turf | Bishop, GA
Contact: Milynn Swofford, Email: [email protected], Phone: 610-772-4025
Description: This is a new home lot in an existing neighborhood. We retained as many trees on the property as possible and we would like to finish the property without turf. We grew up on the outskirts of Philadelphia, PA and regularly visited Longwood Gardens. The acres and acres of naturalized gardens and pathways there are beyond bucolic; we would like our property to somewhat echo this feel even if our own lot is only one acre. We recently moved to Georgia from Colorado. Our landscaping there was naturalized… more on the xeriscaping design. We learned there to focus on beauty which was both deer resistant and low water requirements. What we would like to do here with the new one-acre property in GA is to bring a finish reflective natural gardens… including water features and firepit… with pathways, flowering plants / shrubs / trees throughout the year and appropriate evergreen privacy while not including traditional grass lawns and plantings.
Timeline for completion: The home should close in March or April, 2024. Project completion is open to the needs of those working on it.
Budget for design work: Up to $5,000.
Budget for implementation: TBD, as this is likely a multi-year implementation.
Project: Hilgeman Residence | Greensboro, GA
Contact: Chris Hilgeman, Email: [email protected], Phone: 404-444-3279
Description: We are homeowners on Lake Oconee and parents of a recent UGA graduate. We purchased the home four years ago and have recently re-sided the house. Now the landscaping needs to be of the same “look” and quality as the house. We are looking for a simple (not overdone), but attractive design. Our property has an existing pond and various areas to landscape as a “blank slate”. We do have deer, foxes, rabbits, armadillos that like to eat on our property as well as miscellaneous grading challenges.
Timeline for completion: This spring.
Budget for design work: Approx. $5k.
Budget for implementation: $30K to $50K.
