CED Announces New Urban Planning Minor for Fall 2023

This October, CED received official approval to offer an undergraduate minor in Urban Planning effective Fall 2023. The new minor is open to students from any undergraduate field, making it the best avenue for non-CED students to dive more fully into our urban planning curriculum. The goal of this program is to explore and explain how urban environments are developed, preserved, and transformed. We are excited to provide this opportunity that welcomes a more interdisciplinary student community to engage with urban planning issues.

The minor consists of 15-18 credit hours with one required core course of EDES 4650 City Planning. From there, students can mix and match 4 additional courses from a list of 11 (listed below). This flexibility allows students to tailor the course of study to their interests, focusing on specific perspectives of and approaches to urban planning processes. A minor in urban planning also offers undergraduates with preparation for pursuing master’s degree in urban planning and design (MUPD).

If you are interested in working with local communities, civic leaders, public agencies, and design teams to engage in a democratic planning process, this minor is a great avenue to get started.
