Earlier this month the second year MLA’s made a site visit to East Georgia State College (EGSC) in Swainsboro, Georgia, where they will be developing a campus master plan. This project will continue to hone the class’s design skills, and will also give the students a chance to have a deep and lasting impact on their community.
As an access institution, EGSC plays a vital role in providing higher education to students who often never believed such an education would be possible. A cohesive and thoughtful master plan, addressing proposed expansion and refinement of the campus, will be developed to enhance a sentiment of attachment and pride for students, faculty and the Swainsboro community.
The master plan will direct EGSC’s growth as they increase on-campus residency and four-year degree offerings.
One challenge of the project is balancing the expansion needs of the institution with the ecological needs of the surrounding long leaf pine forests and gopher tortoise habitat.
While on their trip the students stopped in to visit downtown Swainsboro.
