The CED MHP Program was well-represented at the State Historic Preservation Conference in Madison, GA, May 18-20, with UGA alumni, students and faculty engaged as organizers, speakers, volunteers and participants. MHP alumni played key roles on the organizing committee—Madison Planning Director Monica Callahan, Preservation Planner Ken Kocher, and Madison-Morgan Conservancy Executive Director Christine McCauley. In addition to providing host community support, Monica and Ken were session presenters. Other MHP alumni making presentations included, Ethiel Garlington, Allison Duncan, and Jordan Shoemaker. Professor Cari Goetcheus spoke to the conference on cultural landscapes and Professor James Reap held a two-part workshop on preservation law assisted by fourth-year JD/MHP student Jackson Beck, who discussed legal and constitutional interpretation techniques for design guidelines. Second year student Chase Klugh was a conference volunteer, assisting Madison architect Joseph Smith in his presentation and tour of the Central of Georgia Railway Depot.
