Eric Reisman joins CCDP as FindIt Program Coordinator

Eric Reisman (MHP ‘09) has been hired as the newest Program Coordinator for the FindIt Historic Resource Survey Program.

Housed within the Center for Community Design and Preservation (CCDP) at the University of Georgia College of Environment and Design (UGA-CED), FindIt began as a program in 2002 to help document historic resources throughout Georgia and facilitate their preservation, as well as train students in architectural field survey.

Eric Reisman headshotEric has over ten years of historic resource service experience, recently with the Mississippi State Historic Preservation Office as their survey manager. He will serve as the Primary Investigator for annual multi-year research and outreach grants as well as smaller environmental review, mitigation studies, and community surveys for Georgia municipalities and non-profits.  Furthermore, Eric will provide valuable skills-based professional training in architectural history and field survey for CED students through summer internships and graduate assistantships, including architectural identification, mapping, and data analysis.

FindIt is a long-standing partnership between the University of Georgia College of Environment and Design, the Georgia Transmission Corporation, the Georgia State Historic Preservation Office (Historic Preservation Division – Dept. of Community Affairs), the Georgia Department of Transportation, the Information Technology Outreach Services (ITOS) at UGA’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government, various public utilities and Georgia communities.  This partnership creates a student learning experience that is unavailable elsewhere on campus.

Eric believes in promoting preservation through the creation of broad coalitions that transcend social, economic, and political differences, saying, “Preservation as a philosophy is only successful when it truly represents us all.”  As a staff member of the Center for Community Design & Preservation (CCDP) and CED colleague, Eric will also contribute to other outreach and engagement opportunities and add value to CED through committee positions and collegial partnerships.

Eric holds a Master in Historic Preservation from the University of Georgia, and a Bachelor in Anthropology from SUNY New Paltz. A southern transplant going on thirteen years, Eric grew up in the Hudson Valley. When he’s not toiling away on behalf of preservation, Eric can usually be found running, sometimes competitively, just a smidge slower than his high-school glory days.  He once harbored ambitions of restoring classic cars, but deduced that his budget and mechanical aptitude were both insufficient. Lucky for us, he settled on studying old buildings and places instead.

He begins his new role on April 19th.  Welcome, Eric!
