CED Hosts Panel Discussion on Succeeding in Academic and Professional Organization Leadership

UGA CED 2023 Spring Lecture Series graphicAs our spring lecture series “Blue, Green, & Gray Infrastructure” wraps up, the CED will host a panel discussion on succeeding in academic and professional organization leadership. This discussion, led by Associate Dean Ashley Steffens, will give students the opportunity to meet leaders at UGA and College-related professional organizations over lunch. Students will hear about how these leaders developed their careers, faced challenges in leadership roles, and mentored others along the way. Our esteemed panelists include Elizabeth Weeks, UGA’s Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs; Dr. Sarah Covert, Interim Associate Provost for Academic Programs; Dr. Rayman Mohamed, the Vice President / President of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP); and Ebru Ozer, the Vice President of Education for the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). Athens, Georgia Native, Elizabeth Weeks is the University of Georgia’s Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs. She attended Columbia University for her bachelor’s degree. She received her law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law. She served as Associate dean for Faculty Development in the School of Law and continues to teach there. As Associate Provost, Weeks works with campus leaders on faculty-related policies, processes, and records while overseeing a robust slate of professional development programming for faculty (Provost UGA). She has worked in mentoring untenured professors to promote positive career development, classroom instruction, and scholarly impact.

SARAH COVERT

Dr. Sarah Covert is the University of Georgia’s Interim Associate Provost for Academic Programs in the Office of Academic Programs. She held many leadership roles on campus, previously serving as Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in the Warnell School of Forest and Natural Resources. She continues to teach at the Warnell School and has previously taught at the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. As Associate Provost for Academic Programs, Dr. Coert focuses on working with leadership programs, the Provost’s Office, and campus units on lecture series.

RAYMAN MOHAMED

Rayman Mohamed currently serves as the Vice President/President of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP). In his leadership role, he works with committees and chairs of the ACSP, serves as the organization’s parliamentarian, and works on curating the ACSP’s Journal of Planning Education and Research. He is a professor and chair at Wayne State University, teaching in the Urban Studies and Planning Department.

EBRU OZER

Currently serving as the Vice President of Education for the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), Ebru Ozer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture + Environmental and Urban Design at the College of Architecture and The Arts of Florida International University. Throughout her career, she has held leadership roles as an educational advocate, serving as Treasure for the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture (CELA) and her work in establishing the non-profit Future Landscape Architects of America (FLAA).
