Library Research Guides:

Thesis and Practicum Assistance

For consistency and professionalism, CED students use The Chicago Manual of Style Author-Date system.

The UGA Libraries provide a short citation style guide with helpful tips and examples: Chicago Manual of Style – PDF

The entire Chicago Manual of Style is available in GALILEO (access restricted to UGA affiliates).

For writing consultation, contact the UGA Writing Center or email the Owens librarian, Lydian Brambila, at [email protected].

All graduate assistants at the CED receive free access to Grammarly Premium. You can request a license by emailing [email protected].

If you are new to thesis writing, we recommend:

  • The Craft of Research by Wayne C. Booth
  • Case Study Research and Application: Design and Methods by Robert K. Yin et al.
  • Developing Effective Research Proposals by Keith F. Punch
  • Landscape Architecture Research: Inquiry, Strategy, Design by M. Elen Deming and Simon Swaffield
  • Qualitative Inquiry and Research Design by John Creswell
  • Social Research Methods by H. Russell Bernard
  • Internet, Phone, Mail, and Mixed-Mode Surveys: The Tailored Design Method

Theses, dissertations, and capstone projects for the CED are housed in the annex, located in Room 136 of the Jackson Street Building. Students who would like to review these materials can visit the Owens Resource Center service desk for access to the annex.

Check Out and Pickup Requests

Checkout: You can check out books in person, or you can request them for pickup at a campus library circulation desk using the UGA Libraries catalog. Once requested online, it can be picked up from whichever campus library you choose.

Pickup Requests: You can request books from any of the libraries at UGA to be delivered to Owens for pickup. Once you find the item you are looking for in the online catalog, log in with your UGA MyID and click “Request for Pickup.” From here, you can choose which library location you would like to pick up from.

Returns: Any book from a UGA library may be returned to Owens, and any book from Owens may be returned to any UGA library. When returning a book to the Owens location, you can use the outdoor drop-box located to the right of the JSB entrance or bring it into Owens. If no person is working behind the desk, there is a return box in by the entrance where books can be returned.
