Philosopher’s Walks are guided hikes that provide participants with opportunities to experience, connect with and discuss places of ecological interest. They are organized by the UGA Environmental Ethics Certificate Program (EECP) and are open to the public.
Theme: Alfie Vick, landscape architecture faculty at UGA, will lead a walk highlighting several of the new gardens and amenities that have been implemented since the 2012 Master Plan was completed. The master plan was created by UGA faculty and students, in collaboration with SBG staff. In particular, we will visit: The Center for Art and Nature and new Main Garden Entrance, the Alice H. Richards Children’s Garden, the restored Piedmont Prairie and accessible Middle Oconee River overlook, the renovated riverside trails, and the beaver wetland boardwalk.
What to bring: Water, comfortable shoes, and a sense of wonder. Feel free to bring binoculars, field guides, snacks, and/or a picnic for your group to enjoy after the walk.
Distance and difficulty: Expect to walk approximately 1.5 miles, easy to moderate difficulty
