CED Dean Sonia Hirt recently participated in a colloquium on “Why a Sense of Place Matters on College Campuses” at Oxford College of Emory University. As part of a celebration of the reopening of the historic Phi Gamma Hall (1851) on the Oxford (Ga.) campus, a panel of academics and college presidents shared ideas and commentary on the importance of place in education. The panel included the dean of Oxford College of Emory Douglas A. Hicks; David A. Thomas, president of Morehouse College; and Leocadia I. Zak, president of Agnes Scott College. The moderator was Lawrence Biemiller, a senior writer for the Chronicle of Higher Education.
