Vincenzo Cribari, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Urban Planning and Design at the University of Georgia’s College of Environment and Design. He earned a professional degree in Architecture from the University of Florence and, since 2003, has been a registered architect, urban planner, and landscape architect in Italy. He received a Ph.D. in Human and Community Development and a Graduate Certificate in GIS and Spatial Analysis from West Virginia University in 2022.

His professional and academic work spans urban planning and urban design, landscape design, spatial and land-use planning, brownfield and post-industrial regeneration, mobility and infrastructure, and the relationships between built, open, and natural systems. From 2010 to 2016, he was a research fellow and instructor at the University of Trento. He later served as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture at West Virginia University (2022–2024) and Virginia Tech (2024–2026).

Cribari’s research sits at the intersection of urban planning and urban design, environmental planning, landscape architecture, and applied spatial analysis. His work examines urban, regional, and landscape systems through socio-ecological and socio-technological perspectives, with particular attention to landscape and land-use change, ecosystem services, community resilience, and the relationships among infrastructure, ecological processes, and human communities. His research has addressed post-extractive landscapes in the Central Appalachians and increasingly extends to coastal and estuarine environments affected by climate-related hazards. He integrates GIS, remote sensing, Landscape Character Assessment, geodesign, scenario planning, and spatial decision-support methods to investigate climate adaptation, ecological restoration, nature-based solutions, social vulnerability, and green, gray, and hybrid infrastructure.

His teaching focuses on urban planning and urban design, landscape architecture, spatial analysis, and the representation and communication of plans and design proposals, encompassing both historical and contemporary approaches to planning and design. His pedagogical approach emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaboration, systems thinking, and the integration of analysis, planning, design, and representation across multiple spatial scales.
