Jules Bruck

Dr. Jules Bruck is the dean of the College of Environment and Design. Bruck is a nationally recognized leader in landscape architecture and nature-based coastal resilience. Prior to joining the University of Georgia, Bruck served as the Director of Landscape Architecture and Planning at the University of Florida College of Design, Construction and Planning, as well as Chair and Professor of Landscape Architecture. Before her tenure at the University of Florida, Bruck served as the founding director of the landscape architecture program at the University of Delaware, where she held the rank of professor. Bruck is a registered landscape architect, a SITES Accredited Professional (AP) and a fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects. Bruck holds her PhD in Agricultural Education from Texas A&M University and holds her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Pennsylvania State University.
Bruck’s research interests are in coastal resilience, green infrastructure, and public perception of sustainable landscape practices. At the University of Delaware, Bruck launched the Coastal Resilience Design Studio (CRDS), a nationally acclaimed interdisciplinary program formed to address the needs of vulnerable communities in coastal regions. Under her direction, the CRDS received national recognition for informing local land-use policy and driven roughly $10 million in infrastructure investment to communities. In 2022, the CRDS secured a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Sea Grant of around $180K.
Bruck co-leads the multi-disciplinary military research project DEEDs: Developing Engineering practices using Ecosystem Design Solutions for Future Army, funded by the U.S. Department of Defense. The project explores coastline suitability for enhanced living shoreline technologies, while also addressing the physical and social infrastructure and land use patterns that may threaten natural and restored ecosystems. Bruck secured nearly $9.5 million in funding for the project and continues to manage the diverse team.
Bruck also has a keen interest in preservation of cultural landscapes, having served as a board member of Preservation Delaware from 2016 to 2022. In this position, Bruck led advocacy and preservation efforts for the Marian Coffin Gardens at Gibraltar, a threatened historic garden listed in the Cultural Landscape Foundation’s Landslide report. Bruck co-authored the Images of America book “Marian Coffin Gardens at Gibraltar” as part of this effort, archiving the legacy of the renowned female landscape architect.
Bruck teaches broadly across the landscape architecture curriculum, with a focus on design foundations, ecological planting design and the integration of creativity and design thinking. Recognized by Design Intelligence as one of the “Most Admired Educators” in her field, she has successfully established new degree programs and fellowships that expand experiential learning opportunities and advance student career pathways. Bruck was recently selected as a University of Florida Fellow in the Southeastern Conference Academic Consortium’s Academic Leadership Development Program for 2025-26.
