hipr 4560/6560: HISTORY OF world ARCHITECTURE


This is a survey of architecture from the prehistoric era to the present. Emphasis is on the relationship between design of the built environment and socio-cultural, technological, aesthetic, and environmental factors. The primary instructional method is slide lectures, with textbook for reinforcement. The course follows a chronology that is overlaid with certain themes, some extending through the whole course and some pertaining to specific units. The course is a companion to EDES 6550: History of the Built Environment I, which is devoted to the history of landscape architecture through the ages.
