CED's Statement on Equality

The CED stands for equality and dignity, for racial and social justice. We are appalled by the recent killings of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd.

As students and professionals in the fields of environment and design, we advocate for spaces where these values are celebrated and where people can freely and peacefully live, work, learn, play, gather, and engage in constructive dialogue.

We need spaces that are open for everyone, physically and figuratively, and will use our expertise to break down inequalities, including inequalities that our own professions have augmented in the past.

The CED is committed to diversity and inclusivity. Today, we repeat our motto, Prepared to Shape Our World, with a new emphasis. We will not only prepare students with the tools, skills, and knowledge to get the job done, but we will actively work to support their passion for achieving equality and justice.

Throughout the next few weeks, the CED will be sharing resources and stories about our research, teaching and engagement efforts to combat inequality.
