Bill Beery

The College of Environment and Design Community was saddened to learn of the passing of Professor Bill Beery, who died at his home in Lexington, Ga. on August 18th.

Originally from Michigan, Bill served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War; afterwards, he attended Michigan State University where he majored in landscape architecture, which he taught at UGA for 43 years.

In 1973 he designed and helped develop the site plan for what is now the State Botanical Garden of Georgia. Bill was also an artist who was commissioned to draw campus scenes for display in the Academic Building commemorating UGA's bicentennial in 1985. Later in life, he began wood carving, creating canes, walking sticks and caricatures which he displayed in the Circle Gallery in 2010. He was an avid outdoorsman.

Memorial services to celebrate Bill's life will be held at 5 p.m., Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Winterville United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 4-5 PM just before the service in the Winterville United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on the lower level of the church.
