Dear Spring and Summer 2026 Graduates,
As we approach convocation, we want to give you more information about what to expect and what is expected from you:
Spring 2026 CED Convocation Ceremony
Friday, May 8, 10:00-11:00am
Fine Arts Building – 255 Baldwin St. Athens, GA 30602
LOGISTICS:
- Doors will open at 8:30am for the ceremony that starts at 10:00am. All students wishing to participate in the ceremony must arrive for check-in by 9:15am.
- Family and friends of the graduate will enter the auditorium to be seated.
- Upon entering the building, all graduates go upstairs to room 400.
- Please do not bring any items with you to room 400. Give all personal belongings to your family. The door will be locked and inaccessible after the ceremony.
- Once in room 400, you will check in, receive your name card, and wait for the processional to begin.
- The name card will include a number. Graduates will use the number to get in the correct processional order.
- Graduates will enter the auditorium and be seated up front. Dean Hirt will make some comments and then introduce the guest speaker.
- When it is time to present the graduates, you will be ushered through a hallway to get to the side entrance of the stage.
- PLEASE keep in mind that while in that hallway, sounds echo and carry into the auditorium. Graduate names will be called out, and we don’t want anyone’s moment to be ruined by excessive talking and excitement in that hallway.
ATTIRE AND ATTENDANCE:
- Graduates will walk across an elevated stage as their name is read in front of family, friends, faculty, and staff.
- Professional attire is required (with a lot of stairs to be navigated!).
- Caps and gowns are optional.
- Although we do not utilize tickets for the ceremony, graduates are limited to 6 guests each. Please be courteous in keeping to this number.
- The ceremony will not be live-streamed but is being recorded and uploaded later: https://www.youtube.com/@CEDatUGA
RECEPTION:
- An open house-style reception will be held in the JSB from after the ceremony to 1:00pm
- Refreshments: cookies and drinks (gluten-free cookies will be served separately near the drinks.)
- 100% waste-free event!
- There will be photo opp settings, swag, projects to see, and faculty to meet
