Dear CED Community,
It is a great privilege to write to you as Dean of the College of Environment and Design. I come to UGA from my former role as Director of the School of Landscape Architecture and Planning at the University of Florida, deeply grateful for the trust placed in me by the President, Provost, Search Committee, Faculty and Staff. I would also like to express my sincere appreciation to Dr. Sonia Hirt for her eight years of leadership. During her tenure, she built a strong foundation upon which we can continue to build. I am grateful for her generosity and support throughout this transition.
The warm welcome I have received has already shown me the strength and spirit of the CED community. As I begin this role, my first priority is to listen and learn. I look forward to meeting with our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and partners; learning more about the work that matters most to you; and building upon the strengths that have long distinguished the College.
Our disciplines have an extraordinary capacity to shape places, strengthen communities, preserve cultural and environmental resources, and respond creatively to the challenges of our time. Through our conversations, I hope we will develop a shared vision for CED’s future, one that advances our mission of teaching, research, and service while continuing to further our impact.
As the new academic year approaches, I am eager to take part in the traditions and everyday moments that make CED such a vibrant community, from studio visits and design critiques to gatherings in the Circle Gallery and Founders Memorial Garden.
Most of all, I look forward to meeting each of you and learning about your ideas, aspirations, and what you value most about this College. Through you, I will come to understand more fully CED’s legacy, character, and potential as we continue the important work of shaping a better world from here at CED.
